Raechel’s first memories were looking at pictures; the book Family of Man and the Vietnam War on TV. Raised on Dektol in her father’s darkroom she started shooting Tri-X at the age of 15 and has worked as a freelance photographer for over 20 years. She is an artist in residence with the Center for Casas Grandes Studies in Chihuahua, Mexico since 2007 . She shares a studio with life time mentor, father, John Running in Flagstaff, AZ.
Running’s documentary and fine art photo based explorations are contemplative, symbolic expressions of visual poetry. Her work reflects her interests in social and environmental concerns within and beyond the borderlands ; the cultural connections to the landscape and the history within the Greater Southwest and Northern Mexico. These visual musings celebrate life and death and the spiritual thread that connects us to our human experience to the land.
